Formerly known as Brooklawn Child and Family Services, Uspiritus is a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility with close ties to the United Church of Christ. The center is a Metro United Way Agency and is accredited by the JCAHO. Located on Goldsmith Lane, Uspiritus provides housing, schooling and treatment for over 100 boys and girls (ages eight to seventeen) with severe emotional and behavioral problems. In addition, they work with six families in their own homes in an attempt to prevent institutionalization.
The Rev. Harlan Beckemeyer, retired Pastor of St. Matthew UCC and now a member of Saint Andrew UCC, Louisville has served on the Board of Directors of Uspiritus. Several Saint Andrew UCC, Louisville members serve on various Uspiritus Board committees. Our congregation is also is represented on the Uspiritus Auxiliary by several other church members. The Auxiliary sponsors fund-raising projects in order to support the very basic needs of Uspiritus residents. We also supply volunteer tutors at Uspiritus.
