A "Quick History" About Our Congregation

In 1959, Mission Inc. of the United Church of Christ, bought a piece of property at 2608 Browns Lane, then, on the outskirts of the City of Louisville.  This parcel included an old farmhouse, which served as our first Worship Center and Sunday School. Our first worship service took place on Sunday, December 13th of that same year.

One hundred and two people and the Rev. Gilbert Bumb felt the call of God to serve the Brookhaven and St. Regis communities, now incorporated into southeastern Louisville.

On that same site, the spirit of God led the congregation to build a proper church, and the old, beloved farmhouse was no more. The new Sanctuary building groundbreaking took place on April 5, 1964 and the first worship service therein was conducted on Christmas Eve of that same year.  An educational wing was added in 1974.

By 1998, God was speaking with another congregation with major changes on the way.  In April, 1999, over 100 members of St. Matthew UCC joined with Saint Andrew UCC, Louisville.

The merged congregation built a new facility including new classrooms, a full basketball court gymnasium and friendship hall, an institutional style kitchen, and our beautiful natural light atrium "The Gathering Area."

The present complex was all dedicated to the glory of God on February 23, 2003!
